.380 ammo, where the hell do you buy it?
I have been eying the Ruger LCP for some time, and since my fiancee saw the Raspberry model (pink and black) she said she would love to have one. Hearing this I seized the opportunity to trade my G26 to a G27 and can buy her the .380. But I am looking for ammo online tonight and NO ONE carries it! Is it hard to find? What I did find was really expensive too, like $28 for a box of 20 JHP+ defensive loads, and $33 for a box of 50 regular load. Is it worth it, or should I just look into a .38 special? I thought the .380 was catching on, has the ammo just not caught up to the demand?

yep, .380 hard to find and has been that way for 6 mnths or so. it beacame so hard and expensive, i got my wife a .40 to go with mine. keep looking, sometimes WW has it.

Wendell, WW is wally-world? I am just wondering should I go ahead and buy the gun or hold out? I can imagine a nice .38 can be had a lot cheaper, and ammo is WAY cheaper.

yeah josh, wally world. i will check our local ww's and see if they have any. if they do, i will pick some up. cindie has 2 .380's beretta and a sig and a .38 and also a .40. she likes the .38, but its a hand banger. airweight smith and its hard to practice with. its mainly close range gun and nothing else. if they have some i will pick some up and if you want any we can slpit it. picked up some several months ago and still have a little left.

just to let you know, natchez has some .380. 5 box limit, $20 for a box of 50(fmj)

So Wendell does she prefer the 38 for the round or other characteristics? Heather (my fiancee) is small and NOT familiar with guns. She can not rack the slide on my XD, and struggles to on the glock (she may not be able to on the new G27 at all)

Talking to her she says she may prefer a revolver. Just pick up the gun and flip safety off and boom. No slide racking.

I need to get her to the range and let her figure out what she wants. If the .380 LCP has no kick, and it looks like it has a manual safety, than that is probably what she needs. We can keep one chambered and it won't be a recreational gun, just home defense and eventually a CC gun for her.

to be honest, when we decided to get her a gun it was the berretta .380 and she could not rack the slide either. so we kept one chambered for her. then years later we decided to get her the .38 which she did like, but she preferred the semi-auto to the revolver. we went looking again for her a pistol and she loved the sig.380 and could rack the slide with little problem. well then the .380 became so expensive and hard to find, i told her we had to consolidate our calibers. we went to the funshow and we went down the line on her trying to rack slides on the guns i would let her get. she picked up a hk .40 and rack she went. she really loved the feel of the gun and the story ends, got her an hk p2000sk .40. my wife is of smaller build also, but loves the .40 but really loves her sig .380

I've got an LCP and feed it regularly. Our BPS store at Portage, IN gets a new shipment in at least twice a week now. Our Big R always seems to have Gold Dot and/or PDX1. Over the last 5 or 6 month period I've managed to get my stash pile of .380 up over a thousand rounds.
I'll add here that I never bought more than 50 defense or 200 FMJ at a time. I always left some for others unless there was only one box when I got there.
My defense rounds (360 rounds) are all Gold Dot, Critical Defense, Golden Saber, or Supreme Elite Bonded PDX1 and the most expensive was 25 round boxes of Golden Saber @ $23.99.
My FMJ (600 rounds) is all 95 gr. USA at $28.99 per 100.
I also reload and have 50 rounds of Gold Dots and 216 rounds (I always lose some of those little buggers) of 95gr FMJs reloaded.
I've run all this different ammo through it with no issues at all since I polished the ramps. At the ranges intended for the LCP, all the ammo hits center mass.

Larry and Wendell, thanks so much. I think I am getting her the LCP-R tomorrow especially if I can talk them down a little on the price. I'll begin the search for ammo as well.

josh, dont forget, natchez has ammo in stock! 5 box limit, but both of you sign up and you'll have 10 boxes to start, well 500 rnds, not a bad start.

I looked and didn't see any Wendell.

Just An FYI
Josh, another little tid-bit about the LCP. .380+P doesn't play nice with the LCP! There's been a ka-boom or 2 with Cor-Bon DPX I've heard, and have seen the pictures more than once.

looks like they have sold out already, since i posted it. but i will look at WW and i will let you know. also there is a gun show this coming weekend here and i will look there also.

That is GREAT to know, because that is the exact stuff I was going to buy from Ammunition to go. So stay away from hot loads! More and more reason to get the .38. There is a local guy selling the LCR for $390, low round count.

I've fired the LCR, Smith 642, and Taurus 85UL. They ARE a hand full! Lots of recoil! +P flat hurts at about 15 or 20 rounds. Out of the box double action triggers, IMO, the LCR shines, the 85UL is good, and the Smith flat sucks compared to the other two. You S&W fans can blast away, but that IS my honest opinion.
I've found that especially in warm weather (shorts and tee shirts) the LCP size autos print a lot less than a revolver when I carry it in a pocket holster.
Don't be afraid of the LCP. I've got over 400 rounds through mine with non +P. I've seen what it'll do and I damned sure don't want to get shot by it.
