First Rimfire- S&W M&P 15-22- MOE!
If this is in the wrong place I apologize, but I did not see a rimfire section. Please feel free to move to the appropriate place.

Well I finally forked out the cash and bought my first ever rimfire firearm and it's a rifle. I was looking over the M&P 15-22 and the Sig 522, but after handling the MOE version of the smith it was a clear cut decision. I was thinking of buying the threaded barrel version and then adding the same Magpul parts later but in the color of my choosing, but the price difference between the threaded and the MOE was $60, so it was a no brainer to get it. Aside from the MBUS sights, the MOE grip, and the MOE stock, it also has the built in QD sling swivel sockets on the rear of the lower and a sling swivel was included as well. I wish it would have come with more than one magazine but no big deal, seems standard with almost any firearm nowadays.

Initial impression- well I was just damn impressed. Fit and finish, and the weight or lack there of. This things is VERY light, and functions just like my AR-15 in .223/5.56. Even the bolt catch is operational on this rifle and the bolt locks back after firing the last round so there's no guessing whether you're empty or had a failure.

I bought the rifle, with (4) extra magazines, and an uncle mikes soft rifle case that holds the rifle and has 5 external magazine pouches.

Under $600 OTD for all of it, couldn't be happier.

I put 100 rounds of CCI minimags through it at the shop where I bought it to test it out before bringing it home. The sights are pretty much dead on, and I won't be screwing with them.

Later on tonight the wife and I both went out together to another range and put another 500 pack of Remington Golden Bullets through the rifle with no issues. Once the bolt didn't lock back towards the end of the session and I'll chalk that up to the rifle being dirty, and once when my wife was shooting we had a FTE, but I figured that was something she did wrong as it never happened to me. This was the first time she ever shot an AR type weapon or any rifle for that matter and she liked it and did well.

The accuracy on this rifle is amazing and the recoil, well it just doesn't exist.

All in all I'm VERY happy with my purchase, and can't wait to shoot it again, it's nice to go shoot 500 rounds so cheap, and not have to pick up brass either

All I need now is an optic and a sling and I'm GTG. Looking at the offerings from Primary Arms, not sure yet whether I'm going to go with a micro red dot, a regular red dot, or a scope yet.

I have plans for a suppressor in the future as well.

Here's a pic:

Looks good. I keep trying to talk myself into one myself.

That's where I was, when I saw it in person it was game over.

Especially after chatting with a few friends that have one too.

Must be nice. Im the only one in my small group of friends that even owns a firearm. I might make a trip to the local shop and man handle one this weekend.

That's nice! I'm a Spikes man myself.......She-Sha!!!

im still not sure witch way im gonna lean. i love my dads 15-22 but i like the parts interchangeability and building one on a lower i have already

Rusty Shackleford- 05-22-2010

All the parts on a Spikes are interchangeable with a real Ar, except for the barrel and bolt. This is the original lower that came on the .22......

Thats awesome, I simply ordered one of these instead of a complete rifle.

Mine hasn't arrived yet, I hear they like CCI mini-mag so I stocked up.

I was thinking of a conversion kit as well, a Spikes actually, then I started thinking of an upper, but for less than a dedicated upper I got this and it's light and easy to teach the wife or anyone new to an AR to shoot it and handle the platform. Plus then my lower is not being used while at the range so we can both shoot at the same time. I would like ti build a 22 AR with a dedicated upper in the future though.
