are these necessary? water drainage is good but how much water gets in the mag when its inserted in the rifle? the mags in pouch will drain threw the top but question is how much water infiltrates the mag when loaded in the rifle?

anyone want a do a test?

and couldnt you just drill a hole in the mag you already have?>

As you noted you are not worried about the magazine that is loaded in the weapon... It is more about the mags on your kit.

And as stated in the link they come in handy if you need a field expedient method of "cleaning" your mags

hmm. i might just drill some of my pmags. arent the mags in your kit going to drain threw the top while there upside down. and if you were going underwater wouldnt you keep the dust cover on.

some one want to do another test? put a pmag with dust cover on underwater and see if it leaks.
